Nicole Khouzami is a Lebanese-American coloratura soprano from Johnstown, Pennsylvania. She is a recent graduate from the Eastman School of Music, where she recently won 1st Prize in the Jessie Kneisel Lieder Competition. This season, she performed the role of Adele in Die Fledermaus with Eastman Opera Theater and sang as the Soprano Soloist in Haydn’s Requiem in C minor. At Eastman, she has also performed as The Plaintiff in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Trial by Jury and was selected to perform in a masterclass with Barbara Hannigan.
Nicole earned her BFA from Carnegie Mellon University with honors. Performances at CMU included the Soprano Soloist in Vaughan Williams' Dona Nobis Pacem with the CMU Philharmonic, Maguelonne in Viardot's Cendrillon, Bubikopf in Ullmann's Der Kaiser von Atlantis, Cleonilla in Vivaldi's Ottone in Villa, and scenes as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro. During her time in Pittsburgh, Nicole also covered the roles of Ircano and Berenice in Broschi's Idaspe with Quantum Theatre, the first full production since its 1730 premier. Nicole has spent her summers studying in New York (CSNY), Massachusetts, (CLA Berkshires), and Italy (Interharmony Vocal and Violin Festival).
She maintains close ties with her hometown symphony, the JSO, recently performing in their 94th Season: "Homecoming," featuring local artists. This spring, she returned to the JSO as the soprano soloist in Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana.
In the competition circuit, Nicole recently won an Encouragement Award in the Camille Coloratura Competition, and was also selected to be a Semi-Finalist in the Houston Saengerbund Competition and Annapolis Opera Competition.
In the summer, Nicole will join Raylynmor Opera as Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro. She will also join Finger Lakes Opera as an apprentice artist to cover the role as well as Younger Alyce in Glory Denied.
